Due to the Chinook conditions we are having we ask that everyone stay off the ski areas to preserve what snow we have left. Melting and freezing will lead to icy crust forming in the ski tracks which will need to be mixed in with new snow to bring conditions back to being able to be skied. We’ll do our best to get tracks groomed as soon as conditions allow.

Trail Summary (See below for current conditions and maps)

Some big changes this year that we are very excited about!

First off, in place of Michener Park, we have been working with the City of Lacombe to bring Cross-Country Skiing to Cranna Lake. Cranna could be described as a winter sport “hub” within Lacombe with sledding and skating opportunities, perimeter walking trails, and now a 1.2km Ski Loop. The loop starts at the skating area and makes a figure 8 loop around the lake. The City of Lacombe monitors the ice thickness (9-10″ at time of writing) at various points throughout the lake to ensure the safety of skiers as well as us as the groomers. There are also porta-potties on site.

The Lacombe Golf and Country Club has tracks suitable for both classic and skate skiing and would be considered a more “advanced” area due to some larger hills and tighter turns in places. Recommended direction of travel is counterclockwise starting just behind the clubhouse. The interior trails are more novice friendly and offer the same great views as the rest of the golf course. Perimeter loop is set for skate skiing as well as classic, while the interior trails are classic only. Note: some trail adjustments were made this year which takes out the large hills in NE and NW corners as we have had some struggles in these areas with getting the track setter and snowmobile stuck. (I also have a personal grudge with the NE hill as I crash every time I come down it!)

Last of all, we are very excited to be able to work with Alberta Parks to bring skiing back to Aspen Beach Provincial Park after a few years of winter construction and some staff turnover have forced us to be without trails here. Nearly 7km of trail meander through both Aspen Beach Lakeview Campground and Brewer’s Campground. There is Parking on the West End at the bend on the old HWY 12 as well as at the Eberling Day Use parking area, where there is also a skating area set up. One thing we are very excited for is the availability of Picnic Shelters at the North End of the Aspen Beach Lakeview Campground, hopefully there will be wood available to get a fire going in the wood stove. There are also pit toilets located in multiple places. Refer to map for more details.
